Important Bit About Open Licenses Before Y’all Go Nuts

I am not a legal/licensing expert. None of this should be taken as advice. I’m just a well-meaning dude with a website, who remembers the dream of a free internet as a resource for all, back before popular search engines apparently changed their mind about ‘doing evil’, and a certain Mr. Jobs started selling blowers.

The resources below are all free to the best of my knowledge, but the usage of them (such as totally open, or non-commercial only, etc) is all subject to conditions according to their specific license. If you’re unfamiliar with open licenses, some information about a handful of popular ones can be found here:

After doing your own research, if you’re still in doubt about a license for a given resource, then please contact the owner/distributor directly for guidance.

Oh Yeah, One More Thing…

All these resources are hosted outside of Domain of Many Things, presumably by their legally relevant owners/distributors. I have no ability to control or track any changes that get made to these links, or even if they get deleted entirely because they stopped paying their internet bills.

With that in mind, you can help me keep this page useful for years to come. Please let me know if you find any broken links or things that don’t seem right, and I’ll do my best to issue a prompt correction.

Cheers, now enjoy, and don’t forget to bookmark this page!

Art Assets

“You See This” has a full page of black and white, 80s style, line art tokens for personal use in VTTs (You could even use them to make your own physical tokens, following my UMT guide)

Dyson’s Dodecahedron AKA Dyson Logos has been making TTRPG maps with his trademark “hashing” and publishing them on his blog for personal use for so long that he’s become an industry standard.

Axebane has a free pack up on Itch.io of 74 hand drawn fantasy items that are perfect for illustrating books, guides, and cards. What an absolute legend!

Jeff Preston has produced 108 Terrible Character Portraits, and placed it up on Drive Thru RPG for free. Don’t be fooled, despite the name, these pieces are anything but!

Thousands of images of interesting textures of every type I care to think about. All available for free courtesy of Eric Matyas over at soundimage.org

Audio Assets

Still over on soundimage.org, Eric Matyas has produced thousands of looping mp3 tracks across a mix of genres and vibes. Great for use in indie videogames, but also fantastic for use as tabletop ambience, or as background music to videos.

ccMixer has a library of thousands of tracks suitable for tabletop ambience, indie videogames, and video content.

Commercial Distributors of Free and ‘Pay What You Want’ Assets

These stores all offer various resources for sale, but also host a wide range of free assets, tools and games which are available with various licenses, for free or pay what you want. These links are set with the relevant store filters applied to show you the relevant items.
